Windows shows an audio device but doesn't play any sound. (Realtek)

The past few days I found that I could no longer hear anything from my earphones when I plugged in my earphones. The problem first started when I started the computer without plugging the ram completely into its socket. After I plugged the ram back in, the bios said it restored itself to the default settings and from then on the sound no longer worked.
I scoured the internet for solutions to my problems but none of them worked. I already reinstalled Windows once and reinstalled the Realtek drivers numerous times but none of them seemed to fix the problem.

    Please help me.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi, Welcome to Sevenforums.

Try to update the installed drivers. Try a different headphone. If possible, get an external sound card and check if that is working or not.

Hello, thanks for the reply. I already tried numerous different versions of the realtek drivers both from MSI and the Realtek website but they didn't work. I did a clean install in safe mode just now and installed the drivers but it still didn't work. Microsoft says I have the latest drivers so I can't do much about that. As for the sound card, I don't have one lying about and that would be my last resort choice since I want to try to get the onboard sound to work.

Go to Run, type sevices.msc in their. It will open service window. Move down to Windows Audio service, check if the Startup Type is Automatic and if not, change it to Automatic. For doing that right click on the entity and go to properties. Under the General tab you will find startup type. Select it as Automatic.

    If this resolves it, fine.

    Else do a system restore.

I checked and it was set to start on startup but the sound still doesn't work.

Also I reinstalled my os so then I can't do a system restore.
