microphone port problem

Howdy

Both myself and my friend share a PC problem in common . We both own modern gaming pc's and we both have microphone and headphone ports up front/top of case

The problem is the microphone ports don't work so we cant use headphone/mikes for Skype or online games. I have tried to configure mine without success.

Thanks help appreciated.

Scooby two things are you using a two plug headphone set and where exactly are the front panel audio leads plugged into? (In other words did you build these machines yourselves?)
