Open the Playing Audio troubleshooter by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio playback.* If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Did you download anything or add any new hardware shortly before noticing the sound issue?

Which application/s are having sound issues?

Have you tried System Restore? Choose a restore point before you first noticed the sound issue.

Have you scanned for Viruses, Malware, and Spyware?

Any other odd behavior, such as, sluggish start up, programs loading slowly, Internet popups, etc.?

Hey there, I know it's been a while but I have the same problem. I downloaded a game on isohunt and ever since I tried to install it, my sound has been a mess, constantly muting and unmuting itself. Any tips or suggestions? Thanks in advance!
