Windows 7: Where does the phantom music come from

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I have a very cheap set of IConcept PC speakers that sometimes plays phantom sound blips. they play for about half a second. It is some thing to do with the amplifier I think. It is like a very fast progression of notes played in a scale. Right now it is in suspend and every so often plays. So I just unplugged and will see if that goes away.

Do your phantom notes still play if the speakers are not plugged into the PC?

Well, I dont hear anything after unplugging the speakers. So must be the sound card. I have used 2 different sound cards, a envy 24 and a SB Live and heard that sound blip from both of them.

c'mon dude - we all want to know the answer to the phantom music conundrum !

Reminds me of an old B/W UK sitcom 'Hancock's Half Hour - The Missing Page' where the eponymous TH borrowed a murder mystery book from the local library, only to find the last page missing. He had to track down previous borrowers to find out whodunnit. . . .

I will be previewing hundreds of songs. I will be deleting at least 80% of these. I welcome ideas on the most expedient procedure for this task. Naturally, I seek to avoid exiting the player, going to the folder, deleting the file, reinvoking the player, loading the next song, etc. ... -thx
