Where does the phantom music come from

    I have a very cheap set of IConcept PC speakers that sometimes plays phantom sound blips. they play for about half a second. It is some thing to do with the amplifier I think. It is like a very fast progression of notes played in a scale. Right now it is in suspend and every so often plays. So I just unplugged and will see if that goes away.

    Do your phantom notes still play if the speakers are not plugged into the PC?

    Well, I dont hear anything after unplugging the speakers. So must be the sound card. I have used 2 different sound cards, a envy 24 and a SB Live and heard that sound blip from both of them.

    I have not had the problem sound for quite a few days now so I think that the problem is sorted. Thanks to all who have helped.

    Good! Please uninstall Combofix by:

    The following will implement important cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:ComboFix /Uninstall

    c'mon dude - we all want to know the answer to the phantom music conundrum !

    Reminds me of an old B/W UK sitcom 'Hancock's Half Hour - The Missing Page' where the eponymous TH borrowed a murder mystery book from the local library, only to find the last page missing. He had to track down previous borrowers to find out whodunnit. . . .
