Try installing it in Compatibility mode for Vista. Right Click on the Install Icon and then Left Click Properties. One of the tabs in the Properties panel will be for Compatibility.

Is the Conexant set as the Default Audio Playback device? in the Control Panel/hardware and sound and finally the Sound Panel Playback section. Also in the Sound Panel, click on the Recording Tab. If it has Stereo Mix (could be called System Mixer) set that as the Default Recording Device.

in the Device Manager, the Conexant should be listed. Also, if the HD Audio Codec entry is still there uninstall it.

Finally, if the Conexant has a control panel (would probably be listed in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound section, check that for any configuration options.
