Mute key won't work since upgrade to x64

I've recently upgraded to x64 and now can't mute sound (didn't have the issue with the x32 version) - thought it was a KB issue but have tried 2 different KBs (Microsoft 4000 & Natural KBs) & same on each. ALL other media keys work - just the Mute that won't play ball.

I've reinstalled the Realtek audio drivers and checked over all the settings to no avail. F7 doesn't do anything for it either.

While I've managed to get a shortcut to use another key to work it (which works!!) it's continually provoking a UAC box which I then have to use the mouse to knock off, plus there's a 3 sec delay. Sort of defeats the purpose to a degree when I want a speedy mute, esp if I have to answer the phone.

Having looked through search results I can see it's a relatively common problem but everyone's experience is slightly different & I've not found one exactly like mine. I've also done all the "fixes" I found that were in any way pertinent such as the driver reinstallation.

So just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is; have you did all Windows 7 Updates including SP-1.
If not I recommend do so. Their might be a Microsoft keyboard update included.

Yep - I keep everything fully updated automatically but I'll have a look through in case there's anything under the optional updates that might help. It's just so frustrating as I can't figure whether it's likely to arise from a conflict, driver problem, or as you suggest, an update issue perhaps. Thanks anyway - appreciate your input.
