    Windows Sound event not working

Hello wise ones! My best beloved has just switched to Windows 7 from XP, and brought some of his favourite .wav files over to make it a home from home. 'Hal' (from the film 2001; A Space Odyssey) continues to work fine on startup, but Joanna Lumley ( bless 'er cotton socks') has packed up telling him he has email. She did work for a couple of days before going quiet. The file works if you click on it in the Windows\Media folder, and it is now on my machine and she is happily telling me when I have e-mail. Where do you think the problem lies please?

I have found many sound files, that were used in older operating system do not work in Vista/Win7/Win8.

There are other things that do not work like Win XP.

I have no answer on how to make them work, or try to make them work. My best answer is conform to the new OS.

Thank you fireberd, for your info and suggestion. We have no answer either, yet, but as the sound file works fine on MY Windows 7, that same file, not another copy, we figure it ought to be OK in Pete's Windows 7 as well. It WAS working and then.... nuttin.... computers are fun Fun FUN!
