Cannot access Microphone Boost on a Presario V5204NR

Problem: Cannot find Microphone Boost to get a reasonable recording level and
    current level is too low.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium on a Compaq Presario V5204NR Notebook PC
Conexant High Definition Audio as the active Default Device with Driver Ver 3.40.0.50
System worked fine under XP Pro SP3
Headset Logitech H110 works fine on another system.
    Any ideas ?
    Bob

Hello and welcome Bob mate I just looked up the site and they reckon they do not do any drivers for any OS besides the XP and Vista.
What if I Don't See My Operating System? | HP® Support

Now I would be tempted to download the Vista one - what have you got to lose? You cna always uninstall it and go back to the XP. Software & driver downloads Compaq Presario V5204NR Notebook PC | HP® Support

Having said that I checked the HP site for Conexant and came up with this Conexant High-Definition SmartAudio 221 Driver | HP® Support

The last alternative I can think of is actually contacting HP themselves, and to be brutally honest I think maybe mate this is the time for a new machine - sorry but it has some pretty old specs

Would make a nice back up machine all the same.

The Vista drivers are applicable to Win 7, but not the XP. Vista/Win7 handle some sound functions differently than XP and the reason the XP's do not work.

If that does not work, the best alternative is to use a USB connected sound "card" that is Win 7 compatible. The other option, as noted is to retire the PC and get a new one.
