Reinstalled Windows 7 > No sound > BSOD after audio driver install

I've just reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and was trying to install drivers from the motherboard manufacturer website. I have no sound and when I try to install the latest VIA Audio Driver, I get a BSOD right after, then I have to do a system restore.

This is what I see when I go to the playback devices, I have my pc speakers plugged into the audio jack.

My speakers dont show up. How can I get around this so I can have sound again?

Heres the link to the website: Motherboards - M4N68T-M V2 - ASUS

It sounds like the Sound was disabled in the BIOS. Check the BIOS to see if it was inadvertently disabled. If the VIA is Windows 7 compatible, Windows would have installed the generic High Definition Audio Codec and that apparently was not installed.

With only the High Definition Audio Device, that says you did not install the AMD Radeon HD5450 drivers or you would see AMD HDMI listed instead of the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Device.

On an unrelated note, I see you have Windows 7 64 bit installed. With only 4GB of RAM the 64 bit OS does nothing for you. In fact the 64 bit uses more basic memory than a 32 bit so you have less memory available for programs.

I installed the drivers from amd including the suite from the drivers that were recommended to install, and now where it said "Digital Audio (HDMI)" is now "AMD HDMI Output". But I tried installing the via hd audio again but I still get the BSOD saying "The driver is mismanaging system PTE's".

I havent had any problems before during previous times that Ive installed and reinstalled windows. The VIA HD Audio Deck worked perfectly fine in the past. Im not sure whats going on now.

Where would I find the sound if it was disabled in the BIOS? The registry, startup screen?

Thanks for the information by the way.

The BIOS is the first thing that loads on boot up. DEL key or F2 usually will get you into the BIOS.

Generally, the error you are getting is caused by the Video Card drivers, from what I see doing a google search for that error.

Try this driver and see if it works better. Be cautious when downloading that you only get the driver and when installing as many times they slip other software in with them and unless you uncheck those they install toolbars, change home pages, etc.

Alright I checked the BIOS and the only audio option that was listed was something called azalia audio which was already on. I installed the driver you sent through the link and the sound works now. I have yet to restart my computer after the driver install but Ill give it a try. Hopefully it wont crash.
