No audio after installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Laptop

    Hi,

I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on Toshiba Portege M500. However there is no audio came out although in the device manager it worked properly.

I have installed realtek audio driver but still no audio.

Could you please advise how to fix this issue? Thank you.

If you installed RealTek, it did not take. The generic basic function Windows installed High Definition Audio Device is all that is showing for sound. Are you sure this PC has RealTek?

Looking at the Device Manager listing, this PC has other unidentified device problems. If there are motherboard chipset drivers for this model, install them as a first step.

More on the specs of this PC is needed. I looked at the Toshiba site but there are many different Portage M500 models.

    Hi Firebed,

I did install Realtek but it didn't show on the device manager. I am confused as well.

Below are the information from Belarc Advisor:
    System Model
    TOSHIBA PORTEGE M500 PPM50L-0C102V

    Main Circuit Board
Board: TOSHIBA Portable PC Version A0
    Serial Number: $$C07296MA
    Bus Clock: 166 megahertz
    BIOS: TOSHIBA Version 3.40 02/14/2007

    Multimedia
    High Definition Audio Device

In Toshiba support I can't find Windows 7 audio driver for this model maybe because its too old already.

    Thank you.

I can find an M400 and an M600 on the Toshiba Asia site, but no M500?

I notice you have 64 bit OS installed. Unless you have more than 4GB of RAM, the 64 bit OS isn't really getting you anything and in fact the 64 bit OS uses more RAM than the 32 bit version.

The generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Device, sound driver should give you the basic sound playback function.

Considering the age of the PC, it may not be compatible or fully compatible. A 2007 PC (that's what your BIOS date is), generally is a poor candidate for Windows 7 (or even Vista). Many Windows XP PC's just won't work or work correctly.

One of the other forum techies found the downloads for the M500.

It list ADI not RealTek for the sound, and obviously why Realtek didn't install.

    Windows®7. Your PC, simplified.

    Hi Fireberd,

I am using Winsdows 7 32 bit for this Toshiba laptop. The 64 bit version is for my Asus one.
Ok I have installed the ADI driver but still no sound from speaker. I don't understand, the driver working properly and there is no error. I am lost now. Any idea what else I should do ? Thank you.

My take is that you have an old 2007 PC, which is only marginally Windows 7 compatible. Consider that, and what you have working on it.
