Realtek Audio and THX TruStudio. Together.

    Hello.

i have an Alienware Aurora R3 from Dell.

When i received the computer, in 2011, it came with Realek High Def Audio as well as THX TruStudio. I continued to keep my Realtek Drivers up-to-date.

i went on vacation for a month and, in that time, my cousin uninstalled THX feeling like it was a waste of space and the Realtek Drivers and Audio Manager software was good enough.

Well, i wasn't impressed. i can notice a distinct difference, especially when i watch movies (i also miss the movie dialogue feature that THX offered)

i tried to reinstall THX TruStudio Pro, but it does not work. It says it can't find the compatible sound device on my computer - or something of that nature.

i tried looking for an earlier version of THX, thinking that may work, but i did not find one. THX isn't on my Dell disk that was shipped with my computer either.

i haven't tried rolling back drivers yet and i am not sure why i should have to since they were both working perfectly fine together.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Access the Dell downloads using your Service Tag number, the THX should be there. If you didn't get the THX from Dell you need to. Other versions may not work. Also, if a non-Dell supplied version of RealTek was installed that can also be a problem.

yeah i tried the Dell site for a download. They didn't have it. At least for my computer/service tag. i figured it was due to my Realtek version and it probably is because of that except they were both working fine before uninstall and the realtek drivers never changed. So i know it must be possible, i am just unsure how to go about it.

it may have something to do with the THX version too. i was having trouble looking for both the exact date of the 3.5 release and for an older version.

thanks for your reply. i will probably talk to dell. i just hate using phones and they offer no email contact anymore.

There is a "My Dell Downloads" and the THX should be in there. If not post on the Alienware forum on the Dell community and they should get you going.

I think you can find a copy of the Dell specific version of the THX Trustudio PC download from the Creative web site.
This one is for the integrated Realtek HD Audio hardware only.

THANK YOU!!! i really could not find it anywhere. It probably has been my most exhaustive internet search i have ever done. But i downloaded from the above link and sure enough it works! Neither the Alienware forums nor Dell forums could even provide answers.

Your welcome, billybag. btw, happy holidays!

Actually I found the solution in a Dell community forums in this Dell XPS 8100 desktop PC thread describing about the THX Trustudio problem.

To my surprise, I actually installed the Dell edition of THX Trustudio PC from that Creative URL on my auntie's Dell Inspiron 580 desktop PC using onboard Realtek Audio ALC887 (or was it ALC3220?) and the THX program actually ran and enhanced the sound.

Here are the following Realtek HD Audio hardware IDs that support THX Trustudio on Dell computers using the HDXTHXD.INF or HDATHXD.INF file:

    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_1028040D
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_102802B7
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280438
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0662&SUBSYS_10280412
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280439
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_1028043B
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280458
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_1028043D
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_102802F7
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_102802F8
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0662&SUBSYS_10280473
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_10280482
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_10280477
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_10280478
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_10280479
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_102804AA
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_102804A8
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_102804E5
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0272&SUBSYS_102804E6
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_102804A7
guess what? The Dell Inspiron 580 machine uses Realtek audio hardware device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10280438 and is on that list mentioned in that INF file.
