    Sound isn't working on fresh install of Win 7-several error messages


    I just recently installed a fresh copy of windows on my recently installed SSD. I have an old HDD in this machine where my sound worked fine on that install of windows. Before in playback I had a "headset" and "speakers." I think those come with Realtek HD audio. I've installed the drivers for my motherboard and when it restarts it says install complete.
    However I get this error message when trying to install HD Realtek Audio "realtek hd audio driver error code:-5006:0x8000ffff" If I go to my sound in device manager it says the drivers are up to date? Also if I go into the install on my mobo and just install the audio it doesn't work either and gives me this error code http://i.gyazo.com/1ad72e93b7294d06e8ac36d8211744cd.png
    I know it's not my port because it worked earlier today on my other drive
    I read one of the fixes was to go to C>program files>common files>installshield and then rename the install shield folder name to ''installshield1'' but I'm not seeing installshield there.
    I've made sure onboard sound is enable in BIOS. Pretty stuck

    Have you tried going to Device Manager and uninstalling the sound device there and restarting the PC?
    That would be your first step. Be sure to delete the drivers if that is an option.

    If there is more than one device under Sound I would uninstall them all, then reinstall the motherboard sound driver first.

    I have yes. On my mobo disc I clicked install all drivers and I think it installed correctly now. However, I still can't install Realtek HD audio and it gives me the error in the OP.

    The problem could be with the installer (bad file/bad disk).

    I would go to the motherboard manufacturer's website for your board and download the most current Audio driver offered.

    Then back in Windows go to Start: Search and type in "device". Click on "Change Device installation settings" > and then select "No, let me choose", and "Never..." > Save Changes
    (This step is just a precaution, it may not be necessary)

    Then go to Device Manager > Sound... > right click on "Realtek High definition Audio" > choose "Properties" > go to the Driver Tab > and choose "Uninstall".
    The device should disappear.

    Restart the PC.

    When back on the desktop, check Device Manager again to see if the Realtek device reinstalled itself.
    If successful there should be an unknown device.

    Now install the Audio driver you downloaded, alone.
    See if that works.

    I'm going to make a new thread because I was supposed to be using VIA HD Audio (onboard) but I'm getting this error "1608 unable to create installdriver instance return code -2147221164"

    Also I did what you said there and I had the following devices with drivers installed when I restarted (even though I followed your directions) "AMD High Definition Audio Device" and "High Definition Audio Device"
