Recording and playback

Why is it such a pain in the ass to record and even play back audio in windows 7?
I have a Realtek sound card.
All I want to do is simply record and edit audio which is a frickin' nightmare to even try to do and listen to audio from time to time. It was fine with all other versions of Windows, but this version sucks big time!
I've been using Adobe Audition with all of my versions of windows going all the way back to when they were called Cool Edit nad it all worked simply and fine, but now... Arrrgghhhh!!!

Exactly how or what are you trying to record? (I have a recording studio).

For most applications the "Stereo Mix" is used to record. The Stereo Mix should be set as the default recording device in the Sound Panel/Recording section. Win 7 recording is no different than Vista recording or for that matter Win 8/8.1 recording. However, Stereo Mix used to be called System Mixer in earlier OS' (SoundBlaster calls this "What You Hear").

Stereo Mix is also needed if you want to record audio from the Internet.

Although I have a recording studio and use separate audio devices for recording, I use RealTek for regular PC audio, recording from the Internet, recording local audio, etc and no problems. I use Goldwave for regular PC audio recording (and it is my audio editor program). I don't have Adobe Audition but I've seen several reports of problems recording with that, going back at least 6 or 7 years ago (when I worked the Dell forums).

Have the Stereo Mix set and then try recording with the free (and popular) Audacity program and see if that works. One warning, be careful when installing Audacity as it now comes with crapware Uncheck all the added toolbars, etc when you install it.
