Windows 7: Random Sound Alert

Random Sound Alert

I'm getting random sound notifications/alerts that are driving me crazy.
I've attached 2 of the sounds that I'm getting.
I have my theme set to "No Sounds" and the sounds don't sound like system sounds.
I can reproduce the problem in Mozilla Firefox; I can reproduce the 2nd of the 2 sounds Iv'e attached.
A friend has the same problem and he thinks it started after a recent Windows Update.
How can I find out where these sounds are coming from?
How can I stop them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i would start by trying a restore point before the problem started.

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Hello Ben,

In addition, did you install any type of messaging or chat program or add-on in your browser that may be running in the background giving you these alert sounds?

Doing a system restore as Oscer posted above would be a good idea.

don't know how far I need to go back and it would inevitably start happening again.
i think it happens when a certain thing happens in vuze and when i get a new message in skype when it's minimised.
although all the sounds are turned off in skype and vuze.
it must be windows related. what else can i try?

I found out the cause of the problem. It was vuze.
If any body else has this problem please go here for the fix: random alert sound
"Could be the new message system if you're running betas - look at the status area for a speech bubble - it flashes when you have an unread message; double clicking it will show you it. Right-click and select options to turn off the sound (assuming this is it...) "
Please see attachment for how to find the option.

Customised alert sound for critical battery will not stop
I have set a customised alert sound for my Windows 8 laptop's Critical Battery alert but when I plug the charger in the sound keeps going. Is there a way I can have the sound play until the charger is plugged in and for it to then stop?

Random sound
Hello folks, For last couple of hours, my laptop is making random sounds and I am unable to figure out what the sound is. I am pretty certain that this sound is not from Windows OS, but some software. I have not installed/removed any new software or update. The sound is familiar to the CD/DVD...

Random sound bursts?
Recently, I've been getting random "sound bursts" out of the blue. Not doing anything in particular other than browsing the net, when these very short burst of sound occur. Last about 1/10th of a second and sort of sound like someone saying something, but really can't tell. The only thing that I...

phantom alert sound
I am getting a ding/dong alert sound (very full with reverb/echo) at random moments while I am online. I have checked everywhere I know for sounds, and Sound window doesn't have that sound in the list. I have set email at Comcast and on Live Mail to not notify me of incoming messages. The sound...

I get a random mic sound despite not having a mic plugged in.
Every so often there's a noise as though someone is putting down a mic, the sort of muffled clunk. I don't have anything running up front that would do that nor in the background, it's not particularly annoying but I'm afraid it may be some sort of root-kit or a connection with someone I didn't...
