Windows 7: Microsoft Keyboard turning my sound down?

Got it.

I did order the MS Sculpt Business KB, and a Logitech MX performance mouse. I'll let you know if these have any effect.

I think I may take apart the MS keyboard and clean the switches for the volume keys. I may find some years-old congealed coffee - or worse!

Well, I installed the MS Sculpt Ergonomic KB for Business, and the logitech performance mx mouse. I figure that every 10 years, replace your mouse and keyboard, whether you need it or not, right?

It seems that the problem has gone away.

So, because the issue got less bad when I plugged the hockey puck into a powered USB port, and because hitting the volume keys on the KB set the problem off, I suspect an issue caused by low power, or some crud under the keyboard key, or both.

BTW, I think I like both the sculpt AND the new mouse, but there are software issues. The logitech support software doesn't want to install. Maybe inteference from MS Mouse and Keyboard Center? Too, the M&KB center has very poor (limited) key reassignment capacity. That, to me, is part of good ergonomics. I'm going to look at key reassignment utilities. A PITA, when you've just install new stuff. Dissapointed in Microsoft.

Thanks for the help, folks!

From some advice here, recall that I had switched the "hockey puck" usb transciever from my old multimedia keyboard and mouse to a powered USB3 hub (an Anker, which I like very much). This helped, but didn't completely fix the problem. I then found that hitting the volume up or down key on the keyboard set the problem off. And whacking the keyboard on my desktop seemed to fix the problem sometime.

I concluded that either the comm link between the hockey puck and the keyboard and mouse was defective, or that it needed more power than the docking station or laptop itself provided. Or that I had sneezed/ spilled coffee/ dropped tortilla chips into the keyboard, and there were some stuck keys or something. Anyway, the puck/kb/mouse setup was about 7 or more years old, so I popped for a new keyboard and mouse. (MS Sculpt ergonomic, and logitech performance MX). This seems to have fixed the problem.

Again, the suggestions here (even if I wasn't a very good listener -sorry) were what allowed me to get to a desired fix. Many thanks!

Turning off a wireless keyboard and mouse
I am thinking of getting a wireless keyboard and mouse, probably a Logitech, and wonder if, when I power off the computer, the mouse and keyboard will also turn off? It seems like a setting in Power Setting should offer the choice to do so. Thank you.

How can I prevent my keyboard from turning on my computer?
I set the mouse not to wake up my computer, and that's great.. I do like to wake it with the keyboard though so I left that on.. What I would be happy to do now is to keep my keyboard from turning on my computer when I turn it all the way off.. I'd like just the button on the front to do that. ...
