Sound stops playing after changing volume

Hi everyone, I have a rather odd problem...
My sounds works fine, then as soon as I change the volume (either through the icon in my taskbar, through the volume control on a youtube video, or by the volume wheel on my headset), my sound crashes. It always makes my youtube vids throw an error and then stop making sound.

Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it?

I thought it was a driver issue and deleted all the ones relating to sound. Once they reinstalled on reboot my sound was working fine and volume changing with no problem... then it stopped working and reinstalling the drivers isnt helping this time

Youtube uses the Flash player (or HTML5). The flash player is known for sound problems. Reinstall the flash player and see if that helps.

mmm... I probably didnt make this clear - it affects skype, windows media player and other vid playing websites too. Basically anything that makes sound on my computer stops making sound

Oh, OK. Then the first thing is the sound driver. Do you have the correct sound driver or just the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Driver?

I used to have a Gigabyte motherboard, similar to yours - Z77X UD5H but too many problems and I dumped it as I had a spare Z77 motherboard (ASRock). I assume you have RealTek sound, you can download the latest R2.75 version directly from RealTek (its what I used with my Gigabyte). See how that acts.

Also temporarily disable applications that use sound, such as Skype, and see how it acts with just the application you are using with sound, such as the WMP.

    Realtek R2.75 download site
The Realtek site seems to be down right now, but you can access it at www.realtek.com

A snowbird friend from Canada (Nova Scotia) just left this morning. He's heading to Toronto first then to his home near Halifax.

I deleted my drivers and windows just auto-downloads them again...
    The sound drivers listed are:
    Corsair Vengeance 2100 Headset
    NVIDIA High Def Audio
    VIA High Def Audio

If I download the RealTek, how do I stop windows reinstalling the bad drivers?

Oh, and a reboot sometimes fixes the issue for a while :/

If you have VIA, DO NOT install Realek. I just assumed since you had a similar Gigabyte motherboard that it had the same as mine. Sorry.

The Corsiar Vengeance headset is a wireless USB connected. USB audio device such as headsets DO NOT use the PC sound card. They get digital data from the PC and convert it to analog audio in the headset.

    This changes the problem.

Are you only using the headset? and not PC speakers?

    It broke again...
Speakers do not work (youtube and windows media player)
    Headset does not work ( " ")
for some reason the little headset jack on the front of my comp near the power button still works (youtube and WMP)...

The little headset jack is for the PC sound card and is analog. Not digital from the PC like the USB headset you have.
