    Microphone not working

Hello, i am currently having an issue with my headset microphone where the headset is plugged in and im getting audio to the speakers but my microphone doesnt work and i checked on skype and the control panel and the microphone isnt showing up, i went to properties to see if my drivers are up to date and this is what it says

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

So what i did was i uninstalled the device and installed it again and that didnt work, i then did a system restore to before this happened and that didnt work, and then i did msconfig and stopped all programs on start up and that didnt work, im now at a loss of what to do.

note: this happened after a power outage and has also had the same affect on one of my keyboards and my webcam

As this happened after a power failure and you are also having problems with keyboards and webcam, suggests either a hardware problem or a Windows OS problem.

Dell has diagnostics that can be accessed with F12 at power on. Suggest as a first step run the hardware diagnostics and see if it show anything.

What model Dell Inspiron do you have?

I have a Alienware x51 and I can't really do that because I use an HDMI from the integrated gpu so it doesn't show bios , if I wanted to see my bios I would need a mini HDMI or a avi cable to see them is there another way to check?

Not that I know of. Since its a Dell, may be best to post on the Dell forum and see what they say.
