Very low mic level and no boost availible

    Hello guys!

I am having a strange problem with my Sitecom VP-005 microphone. (And yes, its a very poor mic.)
The VP-005 is a very low level microphone, so before this happend I had the boost slider in the levels option menu on 30+db or something.
Here's the problem: there is no boost slider anymore. The driver is installed and it worked fine before.
Do you know whats going on?

Go to the Device Manager and see if the Soundmax is still listed, or if you only have High Definition Audio Driver. If its only the High Definition Audio Driver that is the generic basic function Windows installed driver and not the Soundmax.

If Soundmax is listed, uninstall it, (Right click to highlight the SoundMax entry and then Left click Uninstall), but DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Soundmax. This fixes a lot of corruption problems and may fix your sound level problem.

PC microphone (and line in) inputs are designed for high level signals (near "line level') and not very low levels such as a standard P.A. type microphone. Standard "Computer Microphones" have the high level output.

As a side note, I see you have Win 7 64 bit OS. The main reason to use a 64 bit OS is that it will address (and use) more than 4GB of RAM. A 64 bit OS uses more basic memory than a 32 bit thus you have less available for programs.

    Thanks for your reply,

I reinstalled SoundMAX as you suggested, but it unfortunately didn't fix my audio problem.

And the 64-bit OS was already on my PC when I bought it from a friend.
He told me that if I wanted to upgrade my RAM soon, 32-bit wont work anymore.
I am not too deep into computers, so I'm sorry about that.

Yea, I'm thinking of a Blue Yeti (not a polar bear XD).
That would be a massive improvement.

And I've found a temporarily fix for this problem: VSThost.

With some Reaper plugins, I've found out that +65dB good is for my mic.
If anyone knows how to do this without 3rd party software: please let me know

    Thanks for helping me,
