Planning an Audio Production Build (branch)
Original thread: New Build, Nerd Crisis
Premise of this thread: ignatzatsonic brought up the i7 6700K and said it may be better for a workstation than the i7 5820K, referred me here for more specialized help.
So what do you all think? For an audio production workstation, would the i7 5820K be a good fit? Would Avid Pro Tools be able to utilize all 6 cores? If not, the 6700K may be a better fit when it comes out. But I would definitely like some input from people who know the software well may be able to tell me how it interacts with the CPU and whether I should go the quad core route or the 6-core route.
The 6700K does score higher on the PCMark, which is good for the creative side of things. But I want to know if it'll really be better in the long run. Of course, this depends on price as well (dollars per performance vs dollars per longevity).
Peace.
