    Speaker problems error code 1B63 ; 181B and 1B63 : 1D1B

Hello and Thanks already for any help on this.

My Hardware Tree sympton test Diagnostics sound( DELL INSPIRON M501R) Show me that the ATI HD Audio Internal Speakers Playback Test is bad.
I am given 2 error codes

    Error code 1B63 : 181B
    Error code 1B63 : 1D1B

Also ( perhaps to do with the above ) Error code 2000 0333 Msg Video.

I have posted this new discovery also in my old thread, but that one ( is perhaps not seen or followed anymore ).

Do I need to replace any speakers or parts, or is my Laptop now really at her end ?

The ATI HD Audio is ONLY for HDMI audio. It is not for the regular PC audio.

The regular PC Audio is "IDT".

For the internal laptop speakers to work, the Default Audio Playback needs to be set to "Speakers" (IDT).

You can download the IDT driver from Dell, if needed.

Hello Fireberd, and thanks for you'r replay.

You told me this before, in my thread ( ATI HD is unplugged) and then I did not really understand it and now, to be honest I still don't.

Why do I have ATI on my laptop, installed from the very start by DELL, when I don't need it.
My sound is perfect on the headphone, when I put in a CD and then listen with the speakers of the radio.

My speakers give a terrible creecking sound when I try to look and listen at something on Y Tube and also when I test them in the little audio device, which is situated on the bottom right hand corner of the toolbar.

I have now 4 times tried to install this ITD driver you suggest in you're mail.

There I encounter two problems, first it tells me that it is already installed on my laptop, so " do I want to overwrite it ? " YES.

Than it comes back with the message " The Sigma Tel Audio driver must be removed from your system before you can run this installer ."

I have looked in every corner and cranny of my laptop, cannot find a Sigma Tel Audio driver. Not on the Controle Panel programmes and features, not in the register, not on my DELL info of things installed on my Laptop. I have never come across this name.

I really don't understand what I need to do here .................

    Sorry .........

First, the ATI HD Audio. It is installed because you have an HDMI port which includes both video and audio. It may never be used but is available if wanted.

If you have "SigmaTel" driver installed that is a very old driver. IDT is the current (and has been for at least 7 years) name for SigmaTel.

I would suggest uninstalling the SigmaTel (or whatever is actually installed as the PC sound driver) rebooting the PC and then Installing the IDT following the installation instructions on the Dell site.

    To uninstall.
    1. Go to the Device Manager - Go to Start/RIGHT click on "Computer" and then LEFT Click Properties. Device Manager can be accessed from the Task list at the upper left of the panel.

    2. In the Sounds Video and Game Controllers section, RIGHT click on the SigmaTel entry to highlight it and then LEFT click "Uninstall" Check the box to also uninstall the drivers.

    3. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and install the Generic "High Definition Audio Driver". Then install the IDT driver, according to the Dell instructions.

    4. Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel Playback section. The "Speakers (IDT) should be set as default.

    Dear Mr Fireberd,

You will have heard this over and over again,............................... you are a genius !!!!!!

I figured it out just before your last message arrived!!! Something very old ( and not working ) was still in the control panel, I un installed it and, THEN I could install the new IDT you suggested, got sound back !!!!!!

It is very low, I can hardly hear it and put all the speakers on 100%. Also underneath the video of QI.

Perhaps it needs a bit of time.

Thank you all so much for your patient with me, I have learned SO MUCH.

    Sorry, back again !

I had to take away the solved mark, the volume is really so low and I cannot take it higher.
It is not a sound blaster issue, because I don't have that. I put my speakers on DVD quality and I have nothing working in the enhancements bit.

Also the laptop is now fast overheating and I can hear a slight sort of sound on the background.

Does that make any sence to anybody !!!!

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Thelma

Sounds like more problems than just the audio. Whatever other problems you have are probably just affecting the sound.

Putting the speakers on DVD quality won't really do anything. You should leave the audio on 16 bit/44.1khz which is "CD" quality.

My suggestion is to have a "qualified" computer tech check it out.
