How do I record sound directly from my computer? I have no Stereo Mix!

    Hello,

I would like to record sounds directly from my computer.
    I have no 'Stereo Mix'.
I have tried showing disabled and disconnected devices and it's not there.

Can anyone advise me how I can fix the problem?

My Device Manager tells me that I have a 'High Definition Audio Device'.
    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 13/07/2009
    Driver Version 6.1.7600.16385
(I tried to update the driver and was told by the system that it's the latest version)

    My System Details...
    Operating System: Windows 7, 32-bit.
    Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E6500 @ 2.94 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB (3.50 GB usable)
    System type: 32-bit Operating System
    Motherboard: P5P41T LE (ASUS)

    Many thanks in advance!

Get the correct audio driver for your board from the Asus site.

Maybe you can and maybe you can't--without buying a new motherboard or a new sound card (internal or USB external).

This is a deliberate effort by Microsoft and others to prevent you from recording.

You can try any other driver you care to and may or may not have success--Vista drivers, XP drivers, modified drivers you find online, etc, etc), install in standard mode, install in compatibility mode, etc, etc. Trial and error. Googling. Try this, try that, on and on.

Some motherboards allow it. Mine does. It has a Realtek sound chip.

I also have a $35 external Behringer USB sound card that allows it.

Prepare to spend money or time or both.

I agree with wasnotwas. First step is to get the correct sound driver. The High Definition Audio Device is only the generic, basic function, sound driver installed by Microsoft. It does not have all the features the correct sound driver usually has.
