    Headphones mute speakers problem

When i plug my headphones into the front panel creative console changes from 5.1 to headphones but it doesn't mute my speakers and auto mute speakers option is checked. Is this because speakers are through optical to a logitech z5500? Also is optical out the best way to send sound to the z5500's?

I have optical connection to a Z5500 too, didn't have a problem with a Creative card before and now an on-board Realtek.

Try changing console mode, un-check the option, try re-plugging and then check again. You can also try re-installing console.

I like optical, it seems clearer, fuller and louder (at least to my ears). One set back is if you are doing audio creation, then all the encoding and decoding induce latency in sound.

Try with another user account - User Account - Create
Try in Safe Mode (not sure if it would work in Safe Mode though)

    ------------
    You can try:

    - uninstall all Creative software
    - remove Creative card from PC/ remove headset too
    - run DriveCleanup as admin - Drive Tools for Windows
    - restart and run CCleaner to scan registry and files
    - plug Creative back in, start
    - install only the driver and Creative console
    - restart and test sound
    - plug in headset and test
