AC-97 SPDIF output, just linear no Dolby surround

First of all , hi to everyone, this is my first post in this forum and since i found no welcome threat, i just post the first part here

so second is my somewhat awesome problem.

I recently just switched to windows 7 on my pc.

    specs.
    Abit NF7-S rev. 2.0
    AMD BArton 3000+
    2x 512 MB Ram
    ...
    ...
more i think isn't needet to describe the problem i have .. ist a real oldschool machine but does the job :)

    so
before i was running Windows XP an had my nvidia audio drivers and nvmixer, where i could set the output to SPDIF out AND i could selekt Dolby digital output .. so the signal was delivered in dolby digital to my JVC RX-5032V Reciever .. and i was given a beatiful sorround sound ..

    and now under Windows 7
thank god okay i hear normal music .. so no static for me .. but .. it's just a linear signal .. which means no sorround.
    drivers don't help.
the main audio device is the digital output .. but i can only select 2 speakers, which are playing nicely .. but there are 3 speakers an a sub missing ..

so how can i force dolby digital output on the SPDIF plug ?

hope someone of you can help me ...

Welcome to seven forums. The Abit site hasn't supported drivers for your system since XP. What driver are you using now? You can find it in device manager > sound device >properties>driver I have found a third party site that offers a Vista and Seven driver for the AC97 Realtek sound, you might want to try. Realtek AC97 audio driver for Windows Vista and Windows 7

    okay .. so im using

    Realtek AC'97 Audio

Driver Provider : Realtek semicondutor Corp.
    Driver Date: 19.06.2009
    Driver Version: 6.0.1.6305

    and

NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) MCP Audio Processing Unit

    Driver Provider : NVIDIA Corporation
    Driver Date: 13.04.2005
    Driver Version: 6.14.462.0

    it's just that
if i hit control panel > sound
    in the playback tab

    there are ..
    Speakers
    and
Realtek Digital Output ( which is enabled because im using the SPDIF)

so if i do the right click on speakers it gives me the chance to configure how much speakers i wanna use

but if i do so on the digital output , i don't even get the chance to configure it.

in XP i used the nvidia mixer which did the job excellent , but on windows 7 no chance i tried it ...

hope someone can help ... pleeeease

A lot of people are having this same problem, and I'm one of them, I too have more or less the same set up as you

    Abit mother board
    on board realtek sound card
    SPDIF out to my amplifier

I also only get two channel sound

I have come to think its a bug in windows seven itself as no driver i have tried works, I even tried a friends sound card but still nothing, you can force the sound through if you go to properties and check the speaker fill option and check the room option in the realtek audio manager, but the sound is not to great?

I hope there is a fix to this problem soon
