    its a 2008 Toshiba Satellite with Windows 7 ULTIMATE SP1 x64

I just didn't feel like booting it up...
running ALC268 and driver version v6.0.1.8224
that's much better but still missing the model # of your 2008 Toshiba Satellite laptop.

anyways, Realtek has just posted a new MS certified WHQL HDA driver - v6.0.8816.1 FF00 & FF03 versions [compatible with Win7 to Win10]. use the FF00 version of 8816 HDA. FF03 best suited for ASUS ROG gaming boards w/ SonicStudio 2.x, Dell Alienware laptops w/ Alienware Sound Center, MSI gaming boards & laptops w/ Nahimic 2.x audio.

it's been several weeks since 8799 WHQL and Realtek just came out with 8816 WHQL (the previous 8813 & 8810 HDA versions were in beta and never got certified by MS [aka non-whql])

Model NO. PSLB8U-02300X <-- the last digit is unreadable..

the most current generic FF00 build of Realtek HD Audio drivers is v6.0.1.8821.1 compatible with Windows 7.

I get my updates from a repo on GitHub... who gets them from the Realtek FTP server...

and version 6.0.8838.1 HDA FF00 and FF01 have recently came out late last night - compatible (I mean WHQL) with Windows Vista/Seven up to any Windows 10 version

realize that these traditional HDA drivers are getting fewer, less frequent updates for the past several months; it's been a few weeks between the 8821 and the recent 8838 release

edit: btw- 8821 HDA started to use HDADynabook.inf & HDXDynabook.inf files instead of the HDAToshiba.inf & HDXToshiba.inf files since Dynabook now owns the previous Toshiba consumer PC products. 8816 was the last HDA version to use the HDAToshiba.inf & HDXToshiba.inf files.

8874 HDA is WHQL from Win7 to Win10. the previous HDA version (6.0.8865.1) was WHQL for Win10 only

edit 1/20 - 8874 HDA FF00 also adds support for new Realtek audio device with hardware IDs beginning with "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0245"

and this one is actually WHQL'ed for Win7 (and yes Vista) as I checked the HDART.cat & HDXRT.cat signature hash files. I'm gonna install 8899 FF00 on my bro's old Sony Vaio laptop which still runs Win7 Home Premium (maybe someday I'll upgrade to a higher edition like either Win7 Pro or Win7 Ultimate)

it looks like that Realtek HDA github repo has been recently taken down and served with DMCA notices, Melchior.

that's pretty much a "game over" (I think Realtek has pretty much cracked down as noted from this comment from this Station Drivers forum page) - no more realtek audio driver downloads from there (except for certain modded ones made by other users)

on the other hand, I was able to find this v6.0.8874.1 FF00 HDA X64 driver cab download from MS Update Catalog several days ago and it works from Win7 to Win10.
