The new drivers were probably installed all along but Windows was defaulting to it's original driver, not sure why, possibly the new install routines don't take into account windows default (or older) driver models.
It probably would worked had you just uninstalled the drivers in control panel and rebooted.

You are going to want to choose either the ZIP or EXE version for your 64-bit Windows 7. One is just an installation EXE file, while the other have the individual driver files that will need to be extracted from the ZIP file and to run the Setup file.
I just did all this. It seemed to work fine. When I uninstalled it and restarted I had no start up noise then I installed the new one and restarted and the noise was back. It seems to be working fine. Now how do I check to make sure I have the new one installed for sure?
Yes I have the new one. One more question. It asked me if I wanted to register my device. I tried to. But I could not find my device anywhere. It is made by ATI technologies. But when I went to that one it was not in there.
