I am pleased to advise that the crackling issue has been resolved for my Asus Pro61SL notebook. Asus released a BIOS update which resolved all issues. I downloaded Realtek 2.43 and am experiencing no crackling whatsoever.
I hope the guys who are still experiencing this issue get it solved quickly.
    Thanks to all for contributing.

Still no 5.1 sound with the new drivers . Changed the jack output from the regedit to have sound without speaker fill. Wait for the next driver then.

Steve, that is definitely the Microsoft driver, when I installed the realtek driver I disabled the MS HD driver... I just looked at it, it's the same version in your Pic.
The Realtek driver lists Realtek as the provider.

    Because it's not a Realtek device. ??

From your specs... this is what you have.

I'm pretty sure you need to install the VIA audio drivers, they may use a Realtek codec but it looks like it's a hybrid audio device.
