Installed 2.44 , no improvement , still no 5.1 sound.

The sound quality is set to 24-bit by default.

Thank God, I thought I was the only one receiving no 5.1 sound from the new update.
RealTek or Windows 7 needs to step it up.
I still can't see why if it was compatible with Vista why shouldn't it work with 7.
I've been without 5.1 surround sound for weeks now and it's pretty frustrating to enjoy my media entertainment.

Realtek is horrible as you can see a lot of people are stuck with them as nearly all motherboards use their chip, and people don't want to shell out for another audio device... but come on Realtek why are your servers so slooowww

Another update, another missed opportunity to address the 5.1 speaker problem.

    Hey all,

Could someone give me complete instructions of exactly how to install the Realtex HD Audio Driver for Windows 7?

I have tried installing the zip file, but after installing it and restarting there's no red sound icon on the taskbar like people on here have said there's supposed to be.

I would really like to get my sound fixed, it has a red x over the sound icon, and my sound goes off and on randomly. When you hover over the sound icon it says "No Audio Output Device is installed".

I have a HP Pavilion Dv2000, it's a year old and just within this last week has started having these problems. I've had Windows 7 installed on here for months now so I don't think it has anything to do with me switching from Vista.

    Please help! :S
