Realtek HD Audio Manager Cannot Switch Surround Type

Hi, I'm trying to watch a movie with my headphones for best sound experience. But when I open up Realtek HD Audio Manager and try to change the settings from Stereo to 7.1 Speaker, the program freezes, has a black box on top, and then changes back to stereo. It would also sometimes go blank, as in all I see is the program and the colored background, but there won't be any more images and options.

Then also, I'm unable to hear audio from my headphones when trying to change the setting. The button that let's me test the audio also doesn't work in the manager anymore after this.

Now after a bunch of tries, I got it to be 7.1 Speaker. The sound was better, but I couldn't hear people's voices. So after the big headache, I decided to switch back to Stereo... But now it freezes for a few seconds and go's back to 7.1 and I loose audio from my headphones. I tried switching to 5.1 but the same problem.

So at the moment, I am stuck at 7.1 sound without audio and unable to switch. My bluetooth speakers work when I connect them though (note: with my bluetooth speakers it does not give me any options to switch the sound type).

Yes my drivers are up to date (I just checked). I never had this issue before, but it is REALLY annoying, especially since I just want to sit down, relax, and enjoy a movie.

    Please can anyone help me

Edit: Well now it fixed itself. But I would still like to know if anyone has any insight on what happened? I spent like 20 mins + trying to figure it out and could not fix it.

No idea but I wondered is your headset 7.1? Even then mine doesn't show as 7.1 (logitech g35) but manage it through Dolby (not home to actually see it).
