Check the front panel audio connection to the motherboard. It may have been moved, not on fully, etc.

I have made sure the HD AUDIO cable is secure a few times now, both the front panel and motherboard panel give me the same problem so im assuming im broken something on the motherboard.. i have tried to many things to fix it :/

im thinking of getting this, do you think it would work? - Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter for Windows and Mac. Plug and play No drivers Needed. (AU-MMSA): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

It should work, how well the fidelity will be??? But its inexpensive and something like this is needed for testing, to verify whether the hardware is at fault.

If you purchase this, disable the on-board audio in the BIOS before installing to avoid any conflicts.

JollyJed, have you checked the Playback Devices to be sure that the analog audio output device is set as the default?

Re-installing the GPU may have set its HDMI output as the default. I'm reasonably certain that this happened to my system as well and changing the default put things back in working order.
