Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel playback section.

The Mic should show up and depending on what new sound card you have, you may/should have Stereo Mix.
If nothing is showing, RIGHT click in a blank area in that panel and then click to Show Disabled and Disconnected devices and see if they show up.

Yeah it has 'Mincrophone' set to default which has the name of the soundboard underneath it :/

i also uninstalled and reinstalled the driver as well as taking it out of the motherboard and back in but it still isn't working :/

Check the Properties of the Mic in the Sound Panel/Recording section. There is a volume control in the Properties and it may be set to zero.

Computer mic's need +5VDC to operate. The "ring" connection on the jack should be supplying +5VDC. If not, that is probably the reason the mic won't work.

On the other hand, try the mic in a different PC to verify it works in another PC.

The mic on the headset works perfect on my laptop, but when i connect it to my laptop i can use its on its single jack which has the mic/headset thing combined. (doesn't need the pink and green extension cable)

When my onboard sound on my actual motherboard was working i used the pink and green jack cable fine but on both the USB and soundcard it only works my headphones.. Any ideas mate?

Also is there a specific wire/something specific on the motherboard that is just for mic output? i have plugged the HD AUDIO cable into the soundboard and that is it?

The motherboard connection is ONLY for the on board audio, not any add on.

Without being there I'm at a loss. It has to be some setting since the same thing happens with all the different sound cards.

Did you check the Mic properties to see what the level setting was at?
