One particular System Event sound not playing

As the title mentioned, I have a problem with a single solitary System Event sound.

Any event that uses the "Asterisk" event does not provide any audible feedback, that is to say.. it doesn't work.

All the other System Events seem to work fine, it's just this one. I've searched and tried many solutions... but absolutely none of them worked. The audio also works fine, with all music working normally.

    So far, I have attempted...

    sfc /scannow
    Created a new user account
    Ran chkdsk
    Changed system sound theme
Changed the WAV file for that event
I don't have any restore points that go back far enough

And none of those have had any effect. The Asterisk sound/event still refuses to play. Since it still doesn't work with a new user account, my only theory is that Windows... not my main account... is stuffed and will need a reinstall. Which I'd really rather NOT do just to repair a sound not playing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why ONE sound is being affected and why NONE of the "cures" have worked for me?

    Themes

How many themes have you got, each one has its own default settings.

Do you mean themes as in ones I've made myself?

If so, I only have three, and they're all the same, the only difference being the wallpapers.
