Is the jack on the front of the case? I know I had a real bad habit when making custom PC's of forgetting to hook them up

No it isn't. It's on the back, the front ones aren't connected to the motherboard.

The "headphone jack" on the rear is actually the GREEN speaker jack. Is this the one you are trying to use?

Is the "Speaker" (PC Sound card) set as the default audio playback device? or are you using HDMI, which in that case the HDMI is set as the default audio playback device and there will be NO audio at the PC's speaker out. However, with HDMI set as default, the front panel headphone is usually still available. If this is the case, hook up the front panel headset/mic jack. The cable from the front panel can be labeled HD Audio or AC97. Either can be used but the HD Audio is preferred as it has jack sensing that the older AC97 does not have.

Thanks so much fireberd. The problem was that HDMI audio was the default output. Thanks once again!
