audiodg.exe freezes permanently when choosing any recording device

While working on this problem, you should download a current Windows 7 ISO that includes SP1 so if necessary, you can do a Repair Install without having to uninstall SP1 (and all the updates on top of it, like 190 or so).

I'm really inclined to do that actually. The issue is relatively minor, but my system could probably use fixing that way. Thing is - I need a particular localized version of the system, it doesn't let an English version install on top of it. I've tried :P Thanks anyway

EDIT: Nvm, I think I actually found a suitable ISO. So my question now is: does a repair-reinstall tamper in any way with the contents of Program Files?

I know, I am struggling with it for months now, have no sound, only with external speakers. I have read every article under the sun about this Audiodg.exe. I think my problem is more than one unfortunately, cannot help you I'm afraid.

A Repair install will leave "MOST" of your installed programs alone, but probably not all. I've read that sometimes Microsoft Office needs to be reinstalled. Also your anti-virus.

You're best bet is to do a full image backup to an external hard drive before the repair install. That way you can always get back to where you are now if serious problems occur.
