    No Sound in Win7

    Hi All

I have just upgraded to Win7 Ultimate, a clean install on an SSD, and now have no sound!

Win7 does not see either my SoundBlaster Audigy card, or when it's removed, the onboard Realtek sound.

I have downloaded the latest Realtek and SoundBlaster drivers, enabled/disabled the onboard sound, installed/uninstalled the Soundblaster... nothing works.

No matter the configuration Win7 doesn't see either Audio Device as being installed.

Once I plug my WinXP drive back in I have sound again!

Does anyone know what's going on?!

    Thanks in advance

Hi paul and welcome to seven forums

The difference between XP and win 7, is different drivers. Can you type device manager in search> got to the sound tab and see if either drive is missing or has a yellow triangle them. Are there any "unknown" drivers with yellow on them

If the sound tab is missing one or the other devices you need to reinstalal the drivers for that one

Let us know the results and if you need any help with any of this

Thanks for the reply Ken but I've tried all of these. I downloaded the Realtek drivers as part of my Win7 update, I also downloaded them from MSI's site, there was an option to download the SoundBlaster drivers during the Win7 update but the download failed... 6 times! Each time I got the same meaningless error code, "800F020B."

I've tried installing the drivers manually for both the SoundBlaster and the Realtek, I've tried to run the Realtek with the SB physically removed from the system, I've disabled the onboard sound and tried to install/run the SB, no matter what configuration I try I get the same result, as far as Win7 is concerned I have no audio playback device installed. Oh yes, I almost forgot, when I look in Device Manager the audio drivers are missing, yellow triangle etc.

Then as soon as I go back to my WinXP drive I have sound.

This is a frigging joke; Realtek and SoundBlaster are not exactly unknown in the industry! I'm sure they're out there, but I've never even seen a Mobo that DIDN'T have Realtek drivers for the integrated audio, and every damned person I know who's installed an aftermarket/3rd party soundcard has installed some type of SoundBlaster!

If you or anyone else has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
