    Sound is not in stereo

I noticed today when trying to make some settings changes to my speaker properties that my sound is in mono, not stereo. I vaguely remember making a change a while back, but whatever I changed, I don't recall. I tried everywhere i could look to see if I could determine why the speakers were mono but nothing was evident. This is a systemwide thing, not just an app or two.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks...

Control Panel>Sound right click on your device and hit Properties. Go to the Advanced tab and make sure it is 2 channel, not one.

When I plug in speakers, there is no 2 channel option. It shows 2 channel for headphones, but not for the speakers.

    Is it grayed out?

Could you give us more specifications on your computer, especially the exact make and model of your sound card>

It's a laptop, HP DV7-2185dx (same as dv7-2180us.). Nothing is greyed. It doesn't show an option. On the headphone properties, it shows "2 channel CD quality... etc etc" No idea what the card is- just says High Definition Audio Device.

    Machine has a C2Q Q9000, 6GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate.

Not sure how I can reverse channels. By the way, I'm using external speakers, not the internal ones, not that it matters.

    Downloading the new drivers.

Take out the right jack and put it in the left jack, the put the left jack in the right jack.

Anyway, the new drivers should work

    New drivers. Same problem.

I tried putting the jack in all three outlets. No difference. There is no "left jack/right jack." It's a single unit.

    This really bugs me! LOL

If you happen to have a Realtech controller (check in Device Manager), type REAL into start/search and pull up the Audio Manager. There you can make speaker settings.
