No Sound /Failed to play test tone

    Hi Fellas,

Ok so the problem started with some corruptions in 'mountmgr.sys' after successfully repairing Windows i was able to boot again and everything seemed to work just fine (incl audio) until the next day when i boot my system the Audio wont work at all! No external Audio Card installed, i use the onboard system.

After a brief search on Internet i tried restarting 'Windows Audio' under services.msc (it was already started and was set to Automatic already) but this didnt work for me. The devices were listed with drivers installed so i headed to Playback devices, and it gave me error "Failed to play test tone", have tried disabling Enhancements, changing sample rate, but without luck.

Also tried uninstalling the devices and let the system pick the drivers for me - no luck again! tried the drivers at Dell Support still no luck. I am desperately avoiding 'fresh os installation' here as this is my office PC (no tech guys/small office).

Yep i even tried SFC /scannow but it wont repair some violations - i am not too technical with this but a quick look at CBS log told me something is wrong with jsproxy.dll and wininet.dll so i even replaced them with known good copies after a couple of failed attempts with SFC, yet the prob persist with these DLLs and Audio.

    Please help

Post a screenshot of the Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controllers section.

However, with system problems it is very likely a new install will be required, so prepare for that.

High Definition Audio Device says you are only using the generic, basic function, Windows installed sound drivers. Not the actual hardware sound driver.

The correct Realtek sound driver can be downloaded from Dell. Suggest you download and install this as a first step.

However, as previously noted with all the other system problems even this may not take care of the sound problem.

I had tried it before but since it didn't worked out so i uninstalled and removed.

Have done it again, screen shots below, still struggling:

TheLovleyGuy - As i have no clue what thats for and where to get it, should i just google and install or what? EDIT: If i am not wrong, apparently it for onboard audio for most HP systems. whereas mine is Dell (see sys info), and i think relevant to mine are only Realtek supplied by dell's official support center

    Hi,

Will download your sound driver from your manufacture. Then it will work

After trying all but without luck i was desperately looking for clues in other topics here in this section and I am just overwhelmingly surprised that the only thing which worked for this guy, worked for me too!! Believe it or not i was struggling for atleast past 5 days trying just everything that internet was suggesting!! Not sure exaclty what fixed the issue but this tool worked wonders!!
