cannot connect to bluetooth audio receiver

    Hello,
when clicking "show bt devices" I can see my device with a yellow exclamation mark an if I ask to troubleshot it will say "driver not installed" and when I ask to apply the fix it says driver not successfully installed. I tried the same with a JBL charge and got exactly the same behavior I am amazed to see how ridiculously easy it is to connect an android or a Ubuntu to a BT device and what a nightmare it becomes to do just the same with my win7

    Any idea?
Thanks in advance for your time

You could try finding the manufacturer of the BT device online and try to D/L a driver direct from them. Sometimes the Windows troubleshooter (and Windows Update) chooses the wrong driver. In that case it won't install properly.

Thanks Mellon Head. Honestly i cannot figure out why would a driver be needed any more than for connecting to a router. I would think that all that is needed is the right protocol stack

The driver is required to work the electronics in the BT dongle. When you plug a piece of electronics into a Windows machine, it has no idea how it works. Even a lowly flash drive has to have a driver.

Oh, sure. I thought you were talking about the BT receivers, not about the PC's BT radio.

I have an old HP dv9750 and on HP's site, they offer no drivers for win7 OS but only Vista. What would you recommend?

You could try installing the drivers in compatibility mode for Vista. It might work.

The dev manager shows the following lines
    Bluetooth Radio
    HP Integrated Bluetooth module
    Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator
for both devices, windows states the the device is working properly and that the driver is up to date
Yet when I want to 'add' a bt within reach, it does show me the device with a yellow exclamation mark and will state (in properties, hardware tab) "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" So I don't understand what driver windows is complaining about

In properties of the Bluetooth module it says that the driver is 6.01 by Microsoft

I installed HP assistant who says that everything is up to date

Any Idea how to proceed from here would be most welcome

Thanks, I guess that the driver has been installed by windows 7(?)
I think that upon installation windows scans the hardware and fetches the appropriate driver for every device(?)
