    No volume icon

    Good afternoon,
The volume icon disappeared from my taskbar Windows 7} and I have no volume. I googled the problem, followed the directions but after I do properties, customize, notification on and try to change volume icon from off to on it will not change. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please clarify. Does your sound device appear in the device manager? Does your system produce sounds or not?

System Restore might be the quickest way to undo whatever happened.

Thanks for your reply. At first no sound, then sound came on. I closed the computer yesterday and when I started it up today the icon was back and the sound was turned on in the icon window under properties. I have no idea what happened.

Sometimes a reboot will just "fix" things. If the problem returns let us know and we'll go from there. Glad you're back to normal!

it was probably a problem with your audio driver, not the tray icon. Go to control panel, sounds, playback right now and note what it says next to the green checkmark(s). That's your working audio device. Next time you lose your volume icon, go there again, and you will probably not see a green checkmark.

Thanks, you're right. There is a green checkmark there.

"Losing" the sound icon in Notification Area happens to me every so often. A Desktop Menu Content item from Brink, solves it for me. It restarts Explorer, reclaiming my sound icon without restarting the whole computer.

Explorer - Add to Desktop Context Menu - Windows 7 Help Forums

For me, it solves the problem with one click... Thanks Brink
