Cool Edit Pro 2.1 on Windows 7

There has been much correspondence regarding the inability to get Windows' Stereo Mix sic on Windows 7 and therefore the inability to record using Cool Edit Pro.

Despite there being suggestions of external sound cards and software to overcome this problem I found no such solutions after many searches and many enquiries.

To my surprise I recently got Stereo Mix installed on my Windows 7 Home Premium. I had been updating drivers, using H.P's site
and IOBits' Driver Booster 4.4

I didn't pay much attention to what they were doing, but a day or two later I noticed that Stereo Mix was in the System's Recording Devices.

Until that, the only audio device listed in Device Manager/Sound,video and game controllers, was SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio, and it's in the system 32 folder, Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ADIHdAud.sys

Now, there is an additional audio device in Device Manager/System Devices/High Definition Audio Controller, and it's in Windows\system32\DRIVERS\hdaudbus.sys.

Now I don't know from which source of driver updates this came. However, I made a note while looking onto this which says, rather cryptically since I don't remember where it came from, Analog Devices Product version

I hope this may be of use to someone else.

I think people really need to cool off about Windows 8.
I've been reading some articles about Windows 8 and there's people that are freaking out about the interface change and how it's awful and the touchscreen interface is a disgrace. Keep in mind, that's the Start Screen. Microsoft isn't killing an interface that made them successful for the sake of...
