Yeah that is odd, uninstall it with the the box checked then reboot without your internet connected so windows does not try to get its own drivers. Then install that June version, connect to the net and reboot.

I will do that in the morning. Even if it doesn't solve the problem, I really appreciate all your help!
I think we are down to a Windows OS problem rather than just the sound, since DXDiag does not detect a sound card.
I don't think SFC /Scannow will fix it either. Sadly, I'm of the opinion a full reinstall will be needed.
