    Hi Reble,

Toshiba have a built in facility to update drivers, think its called service center, run it.

    As for going slow,

please run the 2 main repair tools

    KB947821, (select the correct version)
and from an elevated command mode
    sfc /scannow /r

1st off I deleted Win7 because it was demanding to much and to fast. This old laptop couldn't handle it. I installed XP Pro sp3. And the laptop is happy as a clam.

I found the XP sound driver for this laptop. But I keep getting stopped in the middle of the install with the following error message "setup failed to run installation. The remote procedure call failed" What the heck is that?

    Hi Reble,

looked at the specs for that lappy.

MAX Ram 2gb not really enough for 64bit 32 yes,,

As for the sound card driver failure

Type Services into the start menu search box.

In Services, scroll down to "Remote Procedure Call" and make sure the status says "Started"

    and set to Automatic.

The second "RPC Locator" should be set to "Manual".

I am running XP Pro 32bit. I didn't know that 64bit was available for XP. As to the rest I will get back with you after I check the rest out.

I typed in run "msconfig" then to the "services tab". I couldn't find just "Remote Procedure Call" I did find "Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator" and "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)". The "RPC Locator" status is set at "stop". The other line with (RPC) in it, status is running. I don't know how to change the status of each line.

The Remote Procedure call is set to Automatic. The RPC Locator is set to manual. I am still getting the same error message when I try to load the sound driver. Now what?

I finely solved the error of "setup failed to run installation. The remote procedure call failed" that I was getting in the way when I tried to install the sound driver. had to turn off ZoneAlarm firewall. Then the sound drivers installed AOK.
