Windows 7: Stereo mix with USB headset not working

Stereo mix with USB headset not working

I have bought a UGreen 3.5mm jack to USB adaptor for my headset. I was warned that I may not be able to play music in Paltalk rooms with stereo mix using USB. This has turned out to be the case - when I click on stereo mix as my default recording device and play music, there is no movement of the green volume level bar on the right, although I can hear the music clearly through the earphones. An associated problem is that
I cannot get the mic to work when stereo mix is selected - I have to change the default device to microphone.

None of the above issues arise when I plug my headset straight into the jack sockets only when I use USB. Before you ask, I am trying to avoid using the jack sockets as they are often faulty, causing a scatchy sound.

I have read through a number of forums dealing with this problem but cannot find the answer I need. Can anyone help, please?

Stereo vs surround headset
