video playback creates a horrendous noise that appears to by pass S.C.

Hi I have a few videos that playback flawlessly with VLC however if I use media play it plays back with a horrendous noise; my ears nearly bleed.

does anyone know if this is a lack of an audio driver in media player?

Which version of Windows Media Player are you currently using?
Have you tried checking for any Windows Media Player updates?

EDIT:

To check for Windows Media Player Version:
Open Windows Media Player > Click Help > Select About Windows Media Player.

To check for Windows Media Player Updates:
Open Windows Media Player > Click Help > Select Check for updates...

yep, it is up to date. version 12.0.7061.23930.

I suppose I'll just use VLC

Hi ehelifecycle,

I have used VLC for years and found that whatever you throw at it (DVD files, CD files etc) it plays them without any problems.

It would be nice to find out what the problem with Windows Media Player is though!

Have you got speakers attached to the computer or are you playing the sound through the onboard speakers?
Is the computer near anything that could be causing any kind of feedback?
