    New monitor, no sound.

I was thinking my wifes old HP monitor was giving up the ghost, so I bought her a new Sceptre from WallyWorld.
when I read the specs stating it didn't have a HDMI connector (just a vga and a DVI), I also purchased a DVI to HDMI connector.
After that, she claims her sound no longer works. It's a Bose unit with two speakers. Plug one speaker into the other, plug into the power, and plug into the pc. Simple, eh?
I have twice upgraded the sound driver, the second time it showing me a setup screen, which it hadn't before.
I took it apart and hooked it to my PC and I get sound, no fuss.
Is the onboard sound getting ready to take a dump or what?

    Hi Tullphan, welcome to SevenForums

It could be possible that the PC is directing its audio out through HDMI.

Can you right-click on the volume icon on the taskbar, click on "Playback devices" and ensure that the correct one is set as default? You could even disable the HDMI out, if you don't plan on using it any time soon. Right-click and make sure "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" are checked to see all the devices.

    Hope that helps

Since I'm not using the DVI cable from the monitor to the PC (I'm using DVI), would it still do it?
Also, I got an extension cord for my sound cable on the other working PC, plugged it into the sound on the PC I'm having problems with and still no sound.

It depends what kind of port (HDMI or DVI?) the monitor cable is plugged in, at the PC-end. If you are using a HDMI to DVI adapter, with a DVI cable, then yes, it's higly possible that the PC could be sending its audio out through the HDMI.

I don't quite understand what you mean by saying " Since I'm not using the DVI cable from the monitor to the PC (I'm using DVI)"

Do the BOSE speakers use USB, or just a normal 3.5mm jack for connection to the PC? Are you using the headphone/audio out on the rear or front of the PC? are you sure it's not plugged in, into the wrong port? there are usually 6 of them, it's easy to connect it to the wrong one

    I guess I misspoke earlier.
Originally I was using an HDMI to DVI cable as the specifications on the monitor didn't mention a DVI connector, only VGA and HDMI.
When the sound quit working, and I saw the DVI connector, I switched back to DVI to DVI.
I've uninstalled the sound driver & found the newest driver online & installed it, to no avail.
The Bose setup is simple...one plus from the left speaker, one plug for power, and one plug to plug into the PC
