Universal serial bus controller is faulty in Win7 device manager

    I have a new install of Win7 on an MSI 760gma 34.

I have an older Yamaha RPU100 receiver which I've been using for years and is quite old.
But it plays well through previous builds.

After running the install disk for the Yamaha, there is a device listed as Other and exed out
with the usual yellow marking in Device Manager.

Realtek HD audio has been a nightmare for me before. I have run the mfg Realtek setup.

There is sound but it's thin and tinny and seems not be getting through.
I've done all the checks I can think of save for that Universal Serial Bus Controller marked
    as uninstalled.

I will supply a screen shot but as said, this is a new build without everything in place.

The receiver is a special product now long discontinued.
It has an interface in software to control it's functions on the computer screen like
    a remote.

In those settings there is analog, USB, and another digital out setting.
There is sound in analog, but no sound in the USB setting even though the RPU100
disk was run and says installed. What sound is there sounds incomplete.

That's all I have on it. I cannot locate nor can Windows update find the Universal Serial Bus Controller needed. My older build where the RPU100 normally resides is once again playing fully when reconnected.

    One update to this.

The new MSI will boot to one of my older HDs.

In doing this where the RPU100 was running with no issues, here too the receiver audio performs fine
with adequate volume and not tinny or strained.

I made this test since I thought perhaps the very old USB1 small D-connector to the receiver
meant that the newer MSI board wouldn't see it. That's not the case.

I just need to error check what's wrong in the newer Device Manager.

Here is the screen shot of the old disk where RPU100 is installed. There are no devices marked OTHER
    showing or errored out.

The Yamaha install with the problem was run to my new 240gb SSD from Adata.
I have no idea if that effects things.

The Adata SSD is the boot drive but not currently attached to system.

If a clone is possible, The option in reserve is to just clone the working HD with Yamaha to the
new SSD on a fresh format.

Here is the last bit of information I have. It shows the difference in Device Manager in Win7 installed to an
    Adata 240 SSD.

The Yamaha shows as an installed device.

There is a Universal Bus Controller error showing.

Would, for example, simply disabling the error allow the audio to play normally as it does
from a bootable HD installed in its place?

It's clear that I accomplished this once but my notes are lacking on what was done years ago.

If the Adata SSD with NTFS behaves as any hard disk, I could clone the hd to the SSD as a fall back
solution. Again, advise on that since I have not handled any SSD before.

When the original Win7 was installed to SSD, the Yamaha device was not attached and the
Yamaha software not run. Would redoing the install remove the error? Does device manager need to see the device at install?

While waiting for reply, I have one other thing to try with Realtek AC'97-- a driver install disk in my
    toolbox.

    Success.
This nut appears to be cracked. For any watching I will include a screen shot of the appropriate
    dialog.

I asked earlier if simply disabling the faulty Universal Serial Bus Controller entry would get
around the problem. As of this writing the audio is now working properly with the faulty entry disabled.

Right click on the entry and a dialog opens to search for driver, disable.
I selected disable the device. This restored audio to the USB option, the analog option and the digital
option displayed to computer screen in the RPU100 software.

Will mark the thread officially solved after I use it a bit.
