My computer can't hear me - speech texting

Hi! My computer isn't able to hear me , as I was told so, when I tried to set up speech recognition again. I checked my device manager, and clicked on both of the audio programs listed under sound and updated them (one said it didn't need updating). But I still get the same error message. Also, the speech recognition program I have lately been using (Speech texter - in Google chrome apps) - this time, isn't working either. So what else do you think I should try to fix this problem? Thanks!

What speech recognition program are you using, are you using a headset or built-in microphone? What sound card do you have?

Hi! My sound card is IDT, as it is seen in my computer programs. I use no headphones, I just use the built in microphone in the laptop computer I'm using. It worked fine until today.

But now that I thought it over, I think the problem might be that I'm in the middle of the process of turning a movie maker project into a wmv. movie. And I think that process may take up so much of the computer's power - that it has none to spare for the power needed in order to do recording. I bet that's the problem. Sorry, I hadn't thought of that till now! I am able to hear sound when playing a youtube file. But not presently able to record myself, that's all.
