    No sound on my computer

Hi! I have just restored my laptop computer with the set of restore disks that I have. At first, which was today, I played an audio file for the first time, and it worked. But now that I came home with the computer and back on the internet, there's no sound. I had the same problem before I restore the computer. Both times I was able to use Google Chrome's speech texter to type out things that I say, and it works fine.* *so for some reason, I have had no difficulty recording myself. And yet I and not able to get sound on my computer now. Do you think this is caused by hackers?I use Windows Defender as my antivirus. But one mistake I made in the past, was to use my laptop sometimes when sitting in a restaurant. I have read now that this is not safe. And what do you recommend that I do to get rid of this problem?**I ran the troubleshooter to try to fix the problem but it couldn't identify it.Should I use a password on this computer? And should we change hour name and password for getting on the Internet through or ISP?I have removed items I felt might be bloatware from my computer programs earlier today. I use CC cleaner. But still I have that problem of having no sound. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop computer with Windows 7.

    Hi Debby,

Have you looked in the Device Manager to see if there are any yellow triangles present?

Can you remember what you removed?

    I hope this helps!

I don't remember all the programs that I* removed. And my computer is not able to take screen print pictures. I remember some of them, but not all.*I guess I will just use the restore disks on the computer again and start over. I removed just about everything with the word " Lenovo" in it, since I thought*it was mostly bloatware.I disabled a great many things in the control panel I didn't think I needed.

    Before you do that!

Did you look in the Device Manager?
How did you remove the programs?
Did you use Programs and Features, or did you just delete the folders?

    I hope this helps!

Hi! I never had yellow exclamation marks showing in my device manager thunder sound, whenever I had troubles with it.

I have restored my computer now with my restore disks today. So now, I'd like to ask your opinion on what programs are okay to remove from my Lenovo ThinkPad computer.**here is a list of the ones I'm thinking of removing and after that I explain some other things I am thinking of doing to adjust the computer do my liking. Tell me if you think I am making any drastic mistakes. Okay here is a copy of the list:

List of programs to possibly uninstall, if I'm correct in guessing that I don't need them.
    Access help

    Bing Bar

    Create recovery media

    Lenovo auto scroll utility

    Lenovo thinkvantage toolbox

    Lenovo welcome

    Message center Plus

    Microsoft Office* 2010

    Microsoft Silverlight

    Mobile broadband

    On screen display

    Rescue and Recovery-*Lenovo group Limited

    Roxio* creator small business* Center

    Sonic icons for Lenovo

    System update-*Lenovo?

    ThinkPad full screen magnifier

    Thinkvantage access connections?

    Thinkvantage active protection system?

    Thinkvantage communications utility?

Verizon Wireless Mobile broadband self activation

Windows features to turn off if I'm correct in* thinking I may not* need them:

Internet Explorer 8 (I never use*the Explorer to browse the internet)

    Microsoft.Net Framework*3. 5. 1.

    Print and document Services

    Remote differential compression

    Tablet PC components

    Windows Gadget* platform

    XPS*services

    XPS* viewer

    Programs I download and use:

    Google Chrome browser

    CC cleaner

    Audacity

    Gadwin screen printer

In Windows Media Player should I select custom setup, since I never download music from the internet?

Also* should I delete the media center, since I never use it?

My main purposes* for using my computer are:

    1.Educational

    2. Facebook

3.Working on making a slideshow that I plan to upload to Youtube when it gets done.

    Hi Debby,

I did something similar a couple of years back when I decided to get rid of all the junk and things that I pesonally didn't need. In my case though, I changed/updated the install.wim offline and then created a new installation media. This sort of thing can be done using things like Win Toolkit, DISM, DISM++ etc.

I haven't had a Lenovo, so I can't comment on what is needed and what is not as far as their particular installed products are concerned.

Anyway, I have commented your list with what I have done in the past!

Bing Bar - I got rid of this.
Create recovery media - I assume that you have already created recovery nedia?
    Lenovo auto scroll utility
    Lenovo thinkvantage toolbox
Lenovo welcome - Most people get rid of this type of thing.
    Message center Plus
Microsoft Office* 2010 - If this is the trial version, or you don't use it, then get rid of it.
Microsoft Silverlight - I got rid of this.
    Mobile broadband
On screen display - I got rid of this.
Rescue and Recovery-*Lenovo group Limited - Your OS might be on a recovery partition that you would need to re-install.
Roxio* creator small business* Center - I got rid of this.
    Sonic icons for Lenovo
System update-*Lenovo? - This is probably to find the latest drivers for your Lenovo, e.g, Motherboard, Chipset, Graphics Card etc.
    ThinkPad full screen magnifier
    Thinkvantage access connections?
    Thinkvantage active protection system?
    Thinkvantage communications utility?
Verizon Wireless Mobile broadband self activation

Windows features to turn off if I'm correct in* thinking I may not* need them:

Internet Explorer 8 (I never use*the Explorer to browse the internet) - I turned it off.
    Microsoft.Net Framework*3. 5. 1 - I WOULD DEFINATELY KEEP THIS.
Print and document Services - I turned it off.
Remote differential compression - I turned it off.
Tablet PC components - I turned it off.
Windows Gadget* platform - I turned it off.
    XPS*services - I turned it off.
XPS* viewer - I turned it off.

    Programs I download and use:

Google Chrome browser - This is OK.
    CCleaner - This is OK.
Audacity - I have never used it.
Gadwin screen printer - I have never used it.
You could also disable things like Windows Remote Assistance etc if you aren't going to use it. There are other things that you could disable / get rid of, but, how far do you go? It will be interesting to see what others say.

One thing I would definately do though, once you have your system running exactly how you want it, is to create a system image.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks for your helpful reply!

Hi! I already have a set of restore disks (3 in the set) that I bought online some time back. They are easy to use whenever I need to use them. I haven't tried making a system image, but I could maybe try it - but does it take a lot of space, I wonder? I don't like to use the restore disks any more than I have to, of course, but am glad I have them for when I need them!

I am thankful for your guidelines on what you know about - about what might be best to uninstall and what not to! I copied your message down, so that I can read it again as needed. I plan to be more careful this time, not to uninstall things I'm not sure enough should be uninstalled. I'll follow your guidelines, and get rid of what you said you got rid of.

Hi! I have two laptop computers and use them both a lot most days. So either one might have problems now and then. I suppose I could make a system information picture in the way you suggested, each time. Or can send a copy of my system facts from tools folder on my computer.

Obviously, everyone likes their own system setup to how it suits them. What is good for one person, is not necessarily good for another.

As far as the space needed/used for a system image, I use AOMEI Backupper Standard. The compression rate from the drive being imaged to the System Image drive will be in the region of 40%.

    I hope this helps!

EDIT: Don't forget to do your system specifications, it will be beneficial for you in the future!
