W7 laptop does not automatically switch back and forth from bluetooth

My bluetooth used to work just fine and I'm not sure but I think recently there was a Windows Update or driver update that screwed it up, or else it just screwed up by itself.

Before if I connected, say, a Jawbone portable speaker, or a Beats audio headset (both bluetooth) my computer would just automatically recognize it and switch to it; then when I switched it off the HP laptop would just switch back to the default HP laptop audio.

Then suddenly I started having problems where the bluetooth would say "Connected" yet no audio would come through. Sometimes I'd struggle for 10-15 min to get the bluetooth to work even though it worked fine a few days earlier...

I finally figured out that I could click on the speaker icon in the system tray and choose Playback Devices, then DISABLE the HP standard speaker audio and then ENABLE the blue tooth device.
However for some reason once in a while this does not work, either!

But the main thing is, I would like to get it back to the way it was: the bluetooth would automatically connect when turned on and then when turned off the default laptop audio would come back on.

I do have the latest bluetooth driver according to the Intel Driver and Support Assistant.

Anyone know how to get this back to the way it was?

When it says it's connected but you get no audio, click on the speaker icon and select Volume Mixer. What is the sound level for the blue tooth device?

It's not an issue with the volume not being up, it's an issue with my having to manually disable the other source (such as computer sound card) then enable the bluetooth source manually.
This was never the case before, it just started doing this in the past few months.
So I can do it this way, manually; it's just not as efficient or eloquent.

What I'm wondering is WHY this changed and HOW to change it back.

Sorry, I misunderstood "no audio would come through." You know, back in the old days, there was a similar problem when one selected a microphone and then wanted to switch back to the speakers. I don't remember which OS that was or what the fix was.

    I also found this-

    so you're not alone.

Would you try setting your bluetooth device as the default device in Hardware and Sound, Manage Audio Devices (in Sound).
