W7 laptop does not automatically switch back and forth from bluetooth

My bluetooth used to work just fine and I'm not sure but I think recently there was a Windows Update or driver update that screwed it up, or else it just screwed up by itself.

Before if I connected, say, a Jawbone portable speaker, or a Beats audio headset (both bluetooth) my computer would just automatically recognize it and switch to it; then when I switched it off the HP laptop would just switch back to the default HP laptop audio.

Then suddenly I started having problems where the bluetooth would say "Connected" yet no audio would come through. Sometimes I'd struggle for 10-15 min to get the bluetooth to work even though it worked fine a few days earlier...

I finally figured out that I could click on the speaker icon in the system tray and choose Playback Devices, then DISABLE the HP standard speaker audio and then ENABLE the blue tooth device.
However for some reason once in a while this does not work, either!

But the main thing is, I would like to get it back to the way it was: the bluetooth would automatically connect when turned on and then when turned off the default laptop audio would come back on.

I do have the latest bluetooth driver according to the Intel Driver and Support Assistant.

Anyone know how to get this back to the way it was?
